Award-winning approaches to tackle the crises of marine plastics and climate change

Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards

Established by the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky, the awards celebrate individuals whose contributions to social justice, human rights, and peacemaking help advance humanity in their communities and around the world. Proceeds from this event support the Ali Center’s programs, initiatives, and exhibitions. The Co-founder and director of Enaleia, Lefteris Arapakis, received the Conviction Award for his work combatting pollution in the Mediterranean Sea.

50 Next Class of 2022

The Co-founder and Director of Enaleia Lefteris Arapakis, has been selected as part of the 50 Next Class of 2022, a list of 50 young people shaping the future of gastronomy! The unranked list of 50 game changers in gastronomy – selected from more than 400 candidates by 50 Best and its Academic Partner, the Basque Culinary Center – is split into seven categories and features individuals from the ages of 22 to 37 in six continents around the world.

Ambassador for the Mediterranean Coast

The Co-founder and Director of Enaleia, Lefteris Arapakis, has received the honorary title of Ambassador for the Mediterranean Coast conferred by the Priority Action Programme – Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC), a Regional Activity Centre of the UN Environment Programme’s Mediterranean Action Plan.

The announcement was made on 27 September 2021 by Zeljka Skaricic, the Director of PAP/RAC, during an online event organised by the Croatia-based Centre as part of the celebration of the 2021 edition of Mediterranean Coast Day (25 September).

The title of Ambassador for the Mediterranean Coast is conferred to individuals who inspire, through their work and engagement, the people from the Mediterranean and beyond, to better understand, protect and respect the coasts and their environment.

Young Champion of the Earth 2020 for Europe

The United Nations Environment Programme established Champions of the Earth in 2005 as an annual awards programme to recognise outstanding environmental leaders from the public and private sectors and civil society. UNEP has named the Co-founder and Director of Enaleia, Lefteris Arapakis and six other dynamic environmentalists as its 2020 Young Champions of the Earth.
