1. The art of fishing
The aim of this course is to inform the trainees about the historical evolution of fishing in Greece and as well as the current situation. The purpose of it is to strengthen the awareness about the value of fishing in this country, in order for the trainers to become more sensitized and proud to belong to this industry.
2. Fishing equipment/tools
Catching fishes is the main purpose of the fishing activity and therefore it can’t be missing from the training we provide. Within the framework of this course, the trainees will learn general information about catching fishes in the Greek aquatic environment, as well as fishing and storage techniques. Meaning:
- Learn different ways of making nets.
- Be able to sew the nets in the appropriate way to effectively catch fishes.
- Be able to repair the nets in case of damage.
- How to tie and when to use specific sailing knots.
- Basic fishing gear and tools.
- Be aware of the use and the utilization of wires.
- Be aware of the safe and effective use of the vignette.
- Be aware of the composition of all individual fishing gear, so that they can be used for fishing.

4. Communication & conflict management
As students will enter a field where new workers have not been introduced in the recent decades, they will experience intense mistrust and resistance to this change by people with years of experience in this sector. This lesson will prepare them with the appropriate mental tools so that they can efficiently and effectively cope with the conflicts they will face.
5. Management in the fishing sector
One of the most fundamental challenges for the professional fishing today is to protect the marine ecosystem in order to ensure the protection of fishes and the possibility of catching them in the future. This lesson will attempt to inform students about the current environmental situation in Greece’s aquatic environment, the impact of fishing, as well as sensitize them to find solutions to successfully address this challenge.
One of the most important challenges that the fishing sector is facing, is overfishing. With this course, students will be informed about the current state of fish stocks in the Greek seas and learn the best ways and best practices to maintain them at a healthy level, so that the profession of fisherman will survive in the future.
6. Fishing & Law
The purpose of the course is to teach the current fishing & fisheries legislation in Greece, as well as the sustainability needs covered by the specific legislation.
