Supporting the creation of new recycling facility with Kwale Recycling Centre”

"Up to 15 million tons of plastic make its way into the Indian Ocean each year"
"With 1.3 trillion pieces, the Indian Ocean has the second-largest volume of plastic."
"Around 35.5% of Kenya's population is living below the poverty line"

Empowering coastal & fishing communities in Kenya

The Chanuka Plastiki project supports coastal communities in Kenya by improving waste management and providing services including plastic collection Green Stations, volunteer beach clean-ups, and cleaning up dumpsites in drains and ravines that flow into the ocean.

Our goal is to remove over 1,000 tons of ocean-bound plastic annually

This project creates options for proper waste management and seeks to improve social and economic benefits by building plastic collection and recycling infrastructure. Our partners on the ground meet with economically disadvantaged and remote coastal communities to train them as plastic collectors and stop plastic waste before it gets to the ocean. Collectors are able to earn supplemental income while cleaning their environment.”

Circular Economy

Transforming plastic into treasure

All the collected plastic is taken to Kwale Recycling Center, a local collection and recycling company that transports and processes it into useful materials and products.

A system solution to the ocean plastic challenge

A plastic credit is an environmental commodity that represents the collection or recycling of one tonne of plastic material, which can be used in companies’ ESG, CSR, and sustainability programs.

This is why Enaleia and other professional entities are collaborating with ClimeCo, and the Kwale Recycling Center in Kenya, to make sure that the plastic will not only be collected but also integrated into the circular economy.

Through the plastic credit model, we can set up large-scale plastic cleanup projects that can create a real impact on our oceans.
